The first studio album by Tracey Thorn released in 1982. The album includes eight understated originals as well as a cover version of The Velvet Underground‘s Femme Fatale. Recorded for just 138, the album reached number 1 in the UK Indie Chart in 1983 and went on to sell over 100,000 copies throughout Europe. An unassuming masterpiece, simply played on delicate acoustic and electric guitars with Tracey’s voice starkly sitting on top of it all, it marks the transition from the ramshackle Marine Girls to the more sophisticated adult pop of Everything But The Girl.

Fully supported by the artist, A Distant Shore is now being re-presented with the addition of five hitherto unheard demo recordings, hand-picked by Tracey from her archive of cassettes. Lucky Day was recorded during the same session as the album but somehow never made the grade; the other four tracks here were recorded during a later session but then set aside, to be re-recorded a while later with EBTG for their first album, Eden.
