Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers 1982 album Long After Dark is getting a deluxe edition. On October 18, a new version of the album will be released, featuring all the classic songs from the original, along with 12 additional onesincluding seven that have never been released before.

There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didnt get on the record, that I thought wouldve made it a better album, Tom Petty once said. I left offfour things that I liked quite a bit. And probably a few more written that never even got in the door. Producer Jimmy Iovine, who concluded his three-album collaboration with the band on this album, spoke so highly as to compare it to Bob Dylan: Long After Dark, we thought we had it. Sounded like Positively Fourth Street, sounded like one of those records, you know. By the way, I think it is!.

Though Long After Dark came at The Heartbreakers peak in popularity, the album remains something of an overlooked piece of the bands history. While those original songs are still there to revisit, the additional tracks of the deluxe edition aim to give a fuller picture of the groups creative process. The album includes a rendition of Never Be You, a song that was a hit for Roseanne Cash; Dont Make Me Walk The Line, one of the bands poppier outings; and Ways To Be Wicked, recorded in Denver at Applewood Studios.
