His anguished voice,with charisma and melisma to spare, was a confdent and expressive instrument.Presented here is Bland’s outstanding debut LP for Duke Records, Two Steps fromthe Blues, originally released in January 1961, one of the key albums in modernblues, marking a turning point when juke joint blues became seamlessly blendedwith gospel and southern soul.
