Huntington Ashram Monastery is the second solo album by Alice Coltrane.Recorded in mid-1969, a year after her debut,A Monastic Trio, Coltrane performs on piano and harp, backed by Ron Carter on bass and Rashied Ali on drums.

On the opening title track Carter sets up a deep groove, Ali frames everything, and Coltrane is nimble on harp. Likewise, Paramahansa Lake and IHS find Coltrane at her most inventive delivering bluesy, Thelonious Monk-like piano on the latter, with Carter and Ali anchoring the performance. IHS also features some superb arco playing from Carter.

So much thought, love and devotion was put into every single note that Alice Coltrane recorded, and Huntington Ashram Monastery is utter proof of that. No wasted notes, or throwaway moments.
