In celebration of its 10th anniversary, renowned Iceland-based Australian composer Ben Frost releases a limited edition red vinyl of his studio album, A U R O R A, on Mute. Limited to just 300 copies in the UK, this vinyl edition includes alternative artwork and an exclusive download of his blistering 2014 live performance at Berlins Berghain.
A U R O R A, which has lost none of its visceral potency in the intervening years, received universal acclaim and featured in Albums of the Year lists at NPR, Rolling Stone, Clash, Crack, FACT, Stereogum, and more. Performed by Frost along with Greg Fox (ex-Liturgy), Shahzad Ismaily, and Thor Harris (ex-Swans) and largely written in Eastern DR Congo, the album is wholly absent of guitar, piano, string instruments and natural wooden intimacy, offering a defiantly synthetic world of fiercely shaped sounds and galactic interference, pummelling skins and pure metals.
Frost is known for his groundbreaking contributions to composition, production, sound art, and direction over the past 15 years. These include soundtracks for film and TV shows such as Fortitude, Raised by Wolves, and Netflix series Dark and 1899, as well as opera creations including The Wasp Factory and The Murder of Halit Yozgat (which was performed at London’s Royal Opera House and Hannover’s Staatsoper). In 2024, he released his first studio album in six years, titled Scope Neglect, an experimental, genre-shifting record forged from Frosts admiration for metal with the mindful removal of its conventional attributes.
